Micronesia, officially the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), is made up of more than 600 islands scattered across the western Pacific Ocean. Each of its four states (Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae) offers travelers something distinctly different. Ancient stone ruins, sapphire lagoons, volcanic peaks, and remote island communities all tell a story of resilience, connection, and seafaring heritage. It's a place where traditional navigation is still practiced, and time slows down to the rhythm of tides and trade winds.

In Pohnpei, one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in the Pacific awaits: Nan Madol. Often called the "Venice of the Pacific," this ancient city is built on a series of artificial islets connected by canals. The basalt stone structures were once the ceremonial and political center of the Saudeleur dynasty, and they remain largely unexplained by modern science. Just inland, Pohnpei’s lush mountains hide waterfalls like Kepirohi and Sahwartik, which are reachable by short hikes through tropical forest.

For those interested in underwater exploration, Chuuk Lagoon is world-famous among wreck divers. Dozens of sunken Japanese warships and aircraft from World War II rest beneath the surface, now encrusted with coral and surrounded by schools of tropical fish. These wrecks, many still containing artifacts like porcelain, helmets, and radios, offer a haunting but beautiful reminder of the past. Surface dwellers will also find snorkeling, kayaking, and island-hopping just as rewarding.

Chuuk
Chuuk, one of the four states of the Federated States of Micronesia, is best known for its vast lagoon which is one of the largest enclosed lagoons in the world. But what sets Chuuk apart is what lies beneath those calm blue waters: an entire underwater fleet of sunken warships, aircraft, and submarines left from World War II. Often called the "Ghost Fleet of Truk Lagoon," these wrecks make Chuuk a global destination for experienced divers.
